uproot, tend to the flame stand tall, lean into the wind we can never go home after this place we’ve known we can never go we can never know what it means to be alone sing again, both feet on the ground water runs, i can hear the sound will you find me alright? through winter and night? through the darkest of months? i could never go i would never stray very far from home

i think i’m getting closer now my body fading colder now i think it’s time to take my last breath it’s different from what i supposed i never thought i would have chose to take a plunder in this great depth i feel it coming stronger now this weight lifting from under now i feel i have to take this last step my mind is feeling easy now i know that i can make it now i feel you with me in this last step
5.
dream big, my darling dream deeply to ignore the cold outside i’ll be around you just as soon as i can i’ll find common ground with the things i cannot change i’ll be home as fast as the wheel will go until then, i pray you’ll remember when i said… dream big, my darling dream deeply to ignore the cold outside i’ll be around you just as soon, as soon as i can

about

One year ago on March 3rd, 2021, after making tea and rekindling the fire while solo-camping over-looking Detroit Lake, I retreated to my guitar. Strumming next to the fire, enjoying the peacefulness and beauty of the morning, I played what became the opening track "Arise Peaceful" - After a few minutes listening back to the phone recording of this simple guitar diddly idea, I had a more major idea: What if I spend my day writing and recording a collection of songs? I've never accepted a songwriting challenge such as this, and believe the only way it was fun and successful is that it was spontaneous and the perfect environment for me. I went on to write and record 4 more songs before driving home that night.

I want to release this minimalist and intimate collection of music in loving memory, honor & dedication to my father Scott Quackenbush, who passed away in his sleep at the end of 2021. No combination of word or song could express my love and gratitude for this man and what he showed me, my brothers, and really everyone who knew him. I was blessed with the opportunity to share these recordings with him on a camping trip this past June. He asked if he could listen on repeat that night around the fire, we must have heard them 6 or 7 times. The album would end and he would just roll his hand, motioning for me to play it again. Thank you Dad, here's to you.
